Gardens by the Bay in Singapore - Sign 65

Even though a small country, Singapore has several hundreds of gardens, including community gardens, bigger and just small green spaces.

In respect to well known for visitors, we might say there are several kinds of gardens such as Botanical gardens, Themes Gardens and Indoor Garden. 

The indoor garden, Jewel Garden locates at Changi international airport with two main sections: forest and canopy parks. 

We may observe no less than 3,000 (three thousand) tress and 60,000 (sixty thousand) shrubs. The 120 species of trees and shrubs are collection from around the globe. Since the indoor temperature is controlled, we could observe plants from both tropical and temperate zones grow very well.

- Chinese garden

In the Chinese garden, we may explore pavilions, waterfall and landscape gardens within the context of Chinese cultures.

We could discover Japanese traditional items such as a tea house, koi ponds and Zen gardens in the Japanese theme garden, Singapore.

As of Fig 01 at above is the sign for the garden by the bay, Singapore. I think this garden is huge garden in term of number of plants.

Gardens by the Bay has more than 1.5 million plants with about 5,000 (five thousand) species from all the world.

Fantastic in respect to number and variety of species. The plants come from 5 continent: Europe, America, Africa, Asia and Australia.

Just to let you know, the number of visitors is about 9 million people per year to Gardens by the Bay, local and international visitors.

Repairs for Small Engines - Sign 64

We start to cut our grass about the end of February or early March every year, since the temperature getting higher, and grass grow well on that time.

In case you ignore, forget or don't know that small engines are all engines less than horsepower (hp) and often the single cylinder engines. 

Almost all households have one type of small engines. Some of popular small engines in our neighborhood are:

- a lawn mower

- a generator

- a pressure washer

- pumps and power tools.

This time around, we will check whether our "small engine," a lawn mower is ready before the Spring season arrives.

We may do maintenance by ourselves. The maintenances include clean dirty air filter, oil and filter changes, and blade sharpening.

We will go to a repairman if we get specific issue such as power loss. This issue might relate to carburetor, fuel system and ignition system.

We have no knowledge to fix this issue. So, we need help from a professional mechanic.

A Sign with 4 Languages in Singapore - Sign 63

 As you might know that Singapore is a small Island, a modern country, locates in the South East Asian region.

The country has multi-ethnic citizens. The four main societies are: 

- Chinese

- Eurasian

- Indian 

- and Malay.

No surprise, important signs will use language from these 4 main societies. As of Fig 01 at above, a sign of dangerous of electricity (voltage or current) is written in English, Chinese, Indian and Malay.

4 communities enrich Singapore languages, culture, religions, traditions and even cuisines.

Almost all Singaporean speaks English, since its official language for administration and business.

The Sign to Support the Library - Sign 62

 We have several libraries around our neighborhood, the biggest one is the city library. Our memberships is almost for 20 years.

The library was opened in 1942, about 82 years ago, boasts the intertwine between cultural and social of our city. It opens every day, from Monday to Sunday. The services are little bit shorter on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 

It has 3 floors, a house for 500,000 of:

- books

- electronic resources

- movies

- and collections of artworks

The city library is an amazing facility with so many offerings. The neighborhood is surely fortunate to have such a place available to all.

It offers a lot of programs, events and classes (studies) for all ages. These activities are varying from season to season.

- kids story

- computer classes

- book clubs

- author and illustration programs.

We just spend hours in the library every summer. We had to put a number limit on how many books came home with every time. So, we would know how many they should have return.

The signs are a nice way to show our appreciation and support for our libraries during this time that they seem to be undervalued. The signs are free and are inside the lobby of the library.

Transit at the George Bush Airport in Texas - Sign 61

If we want to travel from our city, Baton Rouge to farther north states such as California, Oregon or Washington, hence we should have "transit" flight.

Two places as common transit airports are Dallas and Houston. We love George Bush intercontinental airport in Houston.

George Bush is one of the biggest and busiest airports in the USA. The airport is closer from our city, and we feel convenient compared to Dallas.

In addition to extensive networks within the airports in the USA, there are plenty of direct flight from Houston to many regions.

We may be connected to many countries in the regions of South and North America, Asia, Africa and Europe.

We may find information about the destinations we could reach directly from George Bush airport in Houston.

Some countries which may be reached directly in the Souther and Northern America are: 

- Canada

- Mexico

- Belize

The Mysteriou Dog Respiratory Illness - Sign 60

 The mystery respiratory disease spreading rapidly with dogs in our state, Louisiana recently. Our friends who visit by dog parks frequently said 3 of 5 dogs got it.

All fast with symptoms in one night. One of our friends' dogs is still at LSU (Louisiana State University) veterinary teaching hospital.

The dog has progressed to pneumonia and lack of oxygen has affected dog's (his) heart. He is a young Great Dane.

This illness does not respond well or respond at all to antibiotics. Started or was found in Colorado two weeks ago.

Took less than 3 days to travel from states of Florida (FL) to Mississippi (MS), then to here, Louisiana.

Just to remind, please take precautions until there is more information. Make sure your dogs are up to date on vaccines.

Reducing contact with large numbers of unknown dogs. Just like with other respiratory pathogens, the more contacts your dog has, the greater the risk of encountering a dog that’s infectious.

Reducing contact with sick dogs. This can be harder to determine but if a dog looks sick (coughing, runny nose, runny eyes), keep your dog away from it.

Keep sick dogs at home and seek veterinary care. Avoid communal water bowls shared by multiple dogs.

The Silly Name, but Serious Pizza - Sign 59

 You might not familiar or not know a pizza called "Schlitz & Giggles, silly name serious pizza" which is sold in our city.

Schlittz refers to "schlitz," a German word which means cut or a pizza slice. The giggles, as you know, refer to laughter. 

So, Schlitz & Giggles could be mean the way of eating a slice of pizza with playful and enjoying.

Schlitz & Giggles serve for 15 years in our city, Baton Rouge, sure they are serious about pizza in term of freshness of their ingredients and dough.

The special of this pizza is its crispy crust and flavor because it is cooked in a wood-fired oven.

The Fresh Cut Jars Full of Flowers - Sign 58

When walking in the morning as usual, we saw a small vendor selling of fresh cut flowers. We saw this kind of vendor for first time in our areas.

The vendor's name is "Yaya’s Blooms," a unique name. Even though we never seen in our areas, this kind of vendor could be seen in several parts of our city in some important moments.

Just to let you know that revenue of cut flower in our city about US$ 10 million in a year. The participants involve in this business include wholesale florists, grocery stores, event planners and off course small vendors.

This revenue is estimated to grow in the near future due to several factors such as demand for cut flowers as decorations and gifts.

Some favorite cut flowers in our city are zinnias, marigolds, sunflowers, chamomile and basil.
