The Reasons Raccoon Visit Our Neighborhood – Part 1

Sunday, December 5, 2021

Raccoon is one of wild animals around our neighborhood. I think their population increasing recently.

We easily spot them before dark, even though they are nocturnal animals, active at night.

In nature, raccoon is an omnivorous, they consume both plants and small animals such as:

- fruits

- vegetable

- nuts

- berries

- insects

- rodents

- frogs

- eggs

- crayfish.

Fig 04- Raccoon can not get out from trash can.

We have noticed that Raccoon always visit our house during winter season. It might be due to several reasons:

1) Cold winter drives them to find safe shelter.

- a house is a warm place to hiding

2) Scarcity of natural foods and water

- difficult to find foods and water during cold seasons

- they would be happy to find left over pet’s food in neighborhood’s yards.

- some neighbors provide water for wild birds, hence, to be target of wild raccoon.

  1. We used to have terrible trouble with raccoons at our old hose. Not only did they prove to be destructive, but they ate our entire garden of vegetables.

  3. Oh, we have them. I think they live in the old trees. Cause they make their way on the roof from time to time. The neighbor had one in their house. Came in through the back door. They are such destructive animals. Of course, we have deer too. A lot of wildlife in the city these days. Barn owls..all sorts of creatures.

  13. Here many animals such as wild boars come to urban areas looking for food, each time we leave them less space and they have less capacity to find food.

  16. Bonjour,

Nous n'avons pas de raton laveur dans la région... Je me souviens en avoir aperçu lors de mon séjour dans le Maine près des habitations à la fin de l'automne.

    Gros bisous

  17. At our old house we used to have several of them. I think because we had a lot of trees on the property and farms in the area. Since we moved I haven't seen any of them locally. We have groundhogs, skunks and possums though.

Th raccoons are cute critters but I would not want them hanging around my yard. They can make a mess of the trash, they stole and broke my bird feeders. I would be worried about your pets. We even saw them in the day time, they were brave. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, enjoy your day. Have a happy new week!
