The Sign for Jumbo Green Peanuts or Pumpkins? - Sign 55

    Tuesday, October 24, 2023
By reading the sign "Jumbo Green Peanuts," we thought that the market is selling Jumbo Green Peanuts, but no, no single green peanut.

Fig 01- A sign for Jumbo Green Peanuts.

Inside the market, we saw there are plenty of pumpkins, they are different in sizes (weight), colors and varieties.

Yes, we are in Halloween season now. We expect to celebrate Halloween by Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Selling of pumpkins is profitable business for individual or farmers in our areas or city.

People use pumpkins for decoration and food (pie, bread, muffin, soup, roasted pumpkin etc.) during this season, and they are willing to pay with higher price for both fresh and premium quality of pumpkins.

    Fig 02- Three sample pumpkins.

There are many varieties of pumpkins in our areas. Just few of them are Lumina, New moon, Autumn gold and Cinderella.

Fig 03- Plenty of pumpkins inside the market

Pickle Eggs Sold in the Farmer Market - Part 1 - Food Variety 36

    Saturday, October 21, 2023
We consume salt eggs, usually duck eggs. They are sold in the Asian groceries in our city, Baton Rouge.

    Fig 01- Jalapeno pickle eggs

When we visit one of farmer markets close by our home recently, we noticed that there are pickle eggs.

We found the eggs include chicken and quail eggs, but no duck eggs as pickle eggs are sold.

The different between pickle and salt eggs are:
    1) Salted eggs
    - eggs are soaked in the brine or wrapped by salted charcoal paste.
    - traditionally, salt eggs are duck eggs for specific texture and taste.

    2) Pickled eggs
    - boiled eggs are soaked in the acid and sweet vinegar
    - usually chicken or quail eggs.

Have you tasted pickle eggs? what eggs?
