As we know that workforce diversity include:

- race

- ethnicity

- national origin

- religion

However, the equality also reaches to LGBT employee, since gender identity and sexual orientations are part of diversity in today workforce.

Harmony among employee is important in workplace, thus every gender must feel comfortable at workplace.

McIntyre (2011: The Practical Skeptic: Core Concepts in Sociology 5th ed., New York: McGraw-Hill. p.43 – 44) described three kinds of paradigm.

The three paradigms are:

- Functionalist

- Conflict

- and Symbolic interaction paradigms.

In the conflict paradigm, there is antagonistic which has deep-rooted in many social groups.

The groups against other groups to get social advantages. Then, the groups, eventually changing society to fit their own desires and goals.

Using Woods for Fireplace in the Winter – Part 1

Monday, January 3, 2022

I don’t know how many households using woods for heating in the winter in my neighborhood.

We ourselves never used wood for heating purposes.

Fig 01- Pile of woods for sale

As reported by Ortman and Raglin (2018, published in US Census Bureu) that at least 30% of houses heated by woods in America.

Using of woods is varied from one states to others. Some states, especially in rural areas that more than 30% households rely on woods for heating.

Plenty of reasons to use woods both in cities and rural areas:

- ready available or accessible

- free in many rural areas, and affordable in cities or other places.

- could reduce emissions of greenhouse gas (far below from other fuels).

Fig 02- Fallen tree at neighborhood

Fig 03- Early winter season

In case of power failure due to natural disasters in the cold seasons, woods deliver heating security.

It is reported that average Americans use wood products 3 times than average world population per day:

- using two pound woods for average people in the world

- six pound woods for average Americans

However, not all woods are good for fireplaces due to its release smoke which contains “urushiol,” dangerous substances.

Women Equality as Conflict Paradigm Example – Part 1

Friday, December 31, 2021

Women still face problems in term of equality in the USA society until recently.

In the work place, especially in high technology industry environments, women are not encouraged to get higher position (leadership role) compared to the men.

Fig 01- A woman sitting in the grass (painted by Vincent Van Gogh)

The reason is that women biologically have no drive for higher rank in management.

It is fact, a survey conducted by “SurveyMonkey” showed around 60% of women admitted that there are many obstacles for women in the workplace across the states.

However, it is surprisingly, the gender equality is important for:

- both sexes, men and women,

- and even extend to LGBT

Fig 02- Flowers in the garden

Hence, equality is one of important issues in the society.

Huhman (2017: 3 Reasons Why Gender Equality is an 'Everyone' Issue. Published in Entrepreneur) explained why gender equality is an everyone issues.

Fig 03- Sky at corner of city

There are 3 important reasons:

1. Gender diverse proved to make companies to perform better. Companies with diversity employee have 15% better perform than non-diversity one.

2. Men benefit, as well. In this case, men and women get the same parental benefit. Men can get parental leave as women received when they have children.

3. Gender fluidity matters, too.

Fig 01- A raccoon entered the garden

We find raccoon sift through garbage to find food in our neighborhood.

However, their favorite foods is our pet’s food. They are eating cat or dog foods, then they will come back in other days if they feel safe.

It seems that he raccoon is just hungry. It might have babies around too and looking to feed them.

If a wild raccoon doesn't run when approached, stay away.

Raccoons are dangerous when cornered, and most times they are sick.

A fat raccoon has entered to our house few years ago by chewing through our roofing shingles, then got access into attic:

- she looks at me crazy

- she didn’t move

- she didn't shew

- she was not scared.

Have you ever faced with raccoon?

What do you think?

The Reasons Raccoon Visit Our Neighborhood – Part 1

Sunday, December 5, 2021

Raccoon is one of wild animals around our neighborhood. I think their population increasing recently.

We easily spot them before dark, even though they are nocturnal animals, active at night.

Fig 01- Raccoon at the backyard

In nature, raccoon is an omnivorous, they consume both plants and small animals such as:

- fruits

- vegetable

- nuts

- berries

- insects

- rodents

- frogs

- eggs

- crayfish.

Fig 04- Raccoon can not get out from trash can.

We have noticed that Raccoon always visit our house during winter season. It might be due to several reasons:

1) Cold winter drives them to find safe shelter.

- a house is a warm place to hiding

2) Scarcity of natural foods and water

- difficult to find foods and water during cold seasons

- they would be happy to find left over pet’s food in neighborhood’s yards.

- some neighbors provide water for wild birds, hence, to be target of wild raccoon.

Fig 01- Camping site in the night

In my opinion that at least there 3 types of camping grounds in the America, they are:

- camping sites for tents

- camping parks for Recreational Vehicle (RV)

- combines of sites for tents and RV

About 4,300 camping grounds belong to the United States Forest Service (USFS). This is a federal agency under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

They manage about 193,000,000 (193 million) acres of land. We can find the best camping areas in all states of America in their websites..

In respect to camping parks for RV that the parks owned by private companies (individuals) and by states:

- around 13,000 parks belong to private

- states administer about 1,600 parks

Fig 02- Entrance to camping site in New Mexico

Fig 03- Autumn’s tree, illustration only

Across USA, there are around 40 million people use camping sites as their temporary rest during travels by private cars each year.

The camping activities create a lot of revenue, more than US$ 5.8 billion of park and camping ground.
