The mosquitoes are difficult to be eliminated by traditional methods such as using pesticides, draining in standing water and destroying habitat where mosquitoes are laying their eggs.

Method by using genetic know how was conducted in 2018. This method was initiated by scientists from UK.

The scientists sterile female mosquitoes to reduce their reproduction ability, while males are developing genetic mutation.

Further research then developed by a Chinese scientist with his associates. They treat mosquitoes by doing:

- Sterilized the target areas of female mosquitoes

- Infected the male mosquitoes by bacteria.

These mosquitoes then be released to the specific locations (two islands).

Surprisingly, female mosquito almost extinct. Mosquito population reduce very much. The population reach to nearly zero.

Nice rainbow over that Italian cafe. I also like the cupcake :-) there aren't many pink magnolia in Italy. I always see white ones.

there have always been mosquitoes in the summer but recently they have started to form red very large sores on their bites

Interesting what China can do to mosquitos. I wish we could get rid of them. Our weather is perfect for them at the moment.

Mosquitoes are in introduced past in Hawaii where they endanger our unique bird life. The intervention you write about is something we are trying here in limited fashion. Aloha friend

Where I grew up they used to spray with perticides and it was very effective, but probably not good for the environment!

What an interesting facts about mosquitoes! They are so tiny yet they could be so deadly. I guess we cannot fight with mother nature and the existing sentient beings. Prevention is better than cure. I live in my home with mosquito netting was protection. Hope the scientists could someday find a solution.

We are fortunate that we don't have many where we live, but my daughter has to be so careful when they go outside. They are also good food fish, birds and frogs. I don't like messing with Mother Nature!

I'm not sure we'd WANT the mosquito exterminated. I think of the unattended effects that might have. Like what kind of effect would that have on animals that eat them (e.g., bats?). I'll just stay inside my screened-in porch.

In the island of Mallorca that is a real touristic point, we have humidity áreas too. These áreas near the touristic places in the past years were a real Focus of mosquitos.
But actually with a high and daily work of irrigation and air.fumigation with pesticida in these water áreas, and specially on the forest, that is his hábitat, the plague of.mosquito disapear, and is completly controles in comparison with past years. Every country have his system and measures.
