When is the Proper Time to Cut Trees Down?

Ready to cut it down

Our trees getting old and some are infected by diseases, include fungi and possibly bacteria. We cut down many medium high trees, with size 2 meter (6.6 feet) or less height. We ourselves cut down these trees size, quite easy and no risky than taller and bigger ones.

Chopping into pieces

Our tree which will be cutting down is quite old, tall and big, more than 10 meter (33 feet). We are not able to cut this kind of tree, and in addition, we need permit from city council to do it. So complicated for us.

Hence we call professionals to cut it down. Everything from cutting to chopping to cleaning to getting permit are done by a company. We just pay it.

We did ask to cut our taller tree in the winter (last January), it is the good time. The trees are not growing (dormant) during winter to early spring in the northern hemisphere like we are living now.

  3. It is wise to rely on professionals. ~nods~ I heard an interesting gardener's viewpoint on when it's best to plant a new tree. He says, "Twenty years ago." ~grin~ Thanks for sharing this.

  5. Thanks for your comment, appreciated. In the UK we could not cut down any tree with out permission. Here in France I do not think there is a problem, but we still get the professionals in to do it for ourselves; the farmers cut down their own. Have a good day Diane

  7. Sometimes there is red tape you have to go through in order to get something accomplished on your own property, but fortunately for us we live on private property, over 300 Acres actually, and we are able to cut trees down with out asking permission, thankfully.
We had a terrible time with beetle kill a few years ago leaving a lot of the pine trees dead, so my husband takes time in the Fall and cuts down a lot of the dead and sells it for firewood. It's a great way to get rid of the trees. :-)

Thank you for the birthday wishes you left in your comment on my blog.
Always nice having you for a visit.

    Joy!

  8. We are surrounded by forest but in the front yard are some elms ... 50 years ago they were all diseased and died out except the one in our yard( which is gov't property... We asked that it be inspected ..They did n't respond or come to check the tree .... WELL... one day a massive limb fell across our yard and on the highway...( it shook the whole house) and it could have seriously hurt someone. It seems that although the stately old 150 year old tree was still standing, it was hollow inside... otherwise ... decaying ... A few neighbours quickly got their chain saws out and cut the rest of the tree down... It was quite a job...The unique thing is that as it was deteriorating ...it hollowed out in the shape of a heart so all the tree slices have hearts in the center... They are really quite lovely. It was sad to see it go. ..Thanks for your kind visit...ENJOY your week-end.

  10. So many people think it is wrong to manage tree growth. It is the correct thing to do and can often help the tree with new vigorous growth good for wildlife.

  12. the tree doesn't look rotted, and many think trimming trees is good for them, depends upon the type of tree and their growth pattern, pollarding seems artificial and cruel andr topping central leader trees is a crime unless you are making a bonzai

  16. Bonjour,

    Gros bisous
