A Baby Squirrel on the Neighborhood Yard – Critter 63

We posted about squirrels at our neighborhood previously.  The first post was decreasing of squirrel population and the second was about blonde squirrel.

Each house in our neighborhood has yards with some trees, big and small, old and new trees. Several species include oak, magnolia, cypress, crape myrtles, sugar maple, hollies and pine trees.

These yards and trees attract a lot of wildlife, both dangerous (intimidating) and friendly (adorable) critters.

Fig 03 - One of favorite trees for squirrels.

Few of wild critters are:
- squirrels
- turtles
- snakes
- otters
- raccoon
- rabbit- coyotes
- birds (permanent and immigrant birds)

Fig 04 - Another baby squirrel, just for illustration

We found a newborn squirrel on a yard recently. We guessed about several days old. She looks very weak.

It is said that Pedialyte milk or puppy milk is good for baby squirrels. After a while (several weeks), squirrels can feed their own natural foods:
- fruits
- nuts
- seeds

  4. Oh, we have a bunch. The big black one is king in our yard. He and his family live in the old big oak tree out front. I have a feeling there might be less around if it wasn't for that tree. For a while we were populated with ground squirrels, but they seem to have left, maybe.

  5. It is hard to say if it's climate change or the vegetation that affects their travels the most.. Of course, suburbia is giving them lots of tangibles along the way. I have a feeling we could start a squirrel park here at no cost.

  6. Oh cute! We have tons of squirrels here too. I saw one fall out of a tree the other day- it shocked me because I never see them fall. It laid there for a moment, then got up and ran right back up the tree.

    Happy New Year!

  8. I think I have seen squirrels at every stage of their lives, and even though they are constant marauders at my bird feeders, I have a grudging admiration for them, and freely admit that they are very appealing animals.

  11. Little babies of all creatures are so cute. We have several families of squirrels in the neighborhood but the little ones are hidden away until they are much bigger. Hope you have a wonderful New Year's!

  15. So cute! Squirrels have the ability to detach their tails when they feel threatened. I see many detached tails during my bird walks.
