As you might know, Iris has at least 300 species worldwide. Many love them due to their attractive colors.
The above photo (Fig 01) is our state, Louisiana native Iris, people called it Vivian Mae or Louisiana hybrids.
Other well-known species (hybrids) are:
- Iris hexagona, Dixie iris
- Iris nelsonii, Abbeville iris
- Iris brevicaulis, Lamance iris
- Giant Blue, Iris giganticaerulea
- Copper Iris, Iris fulva.
There are many colors of Iris flowers in our areas, some people including me love purple ones.
What species of Iris flowers in your areas?

Oh this sparked my interest, I know I've seen some iris near me, but I haven't ever thought of what kind. With a quick google search I found out that Iris douglasiana and Iris fernaldii are common. The Monterey Bay Iris Society also hosts events and displays related to irises in my area, I might have to check that out! Thanks for sharing!
