Regular Visiting of Nursery at Home Depot

Nursery of flowers

We usually visit nursery on late January or early February every year. Temperature is comfortable in our American southern states.

The nursery could be home depot, Walmart or any specific nurseries that available in our city or near by our neighborhood.

In the last several years, frozen (temperature below minus C degree) killed our plants, flowers and fruits.

Some of our trees also died, not because of temperature, but because of diseases. Mainly due to fungi and bacteria diseases.

We need to re-placed the dead plants with new ones. They are include annual and perennial flowers, fruits and trees.

Perennial flowers

From the word “perennial,” we know that this is a kind of “continuation.” The flowers may grow year by year.

The flowers are growing during spring and summer seasons, dormant in the fall and winter. They might re-grow in the spring and summer, depending on many factors.

There are plenty of perennial flowers, some of them are:
- Black eyed Susan
- Day lily
- Daffodils
- Aster
- Gloriosa daisy
- Penstemon

Annual flowers

Annual refer to growing in one season only, no re-growing in spring and summer seasons.

Some of annual flowers are following:
- Petunia
- Pansy
- Calendula
- Swiss chard
- Geranium

Beautiful roses

I like white rose, look lovely. I think Home Depot sells plenty of roses variations and colors.

The colors not only white and red, but also include yellow, vermilion, magenta, apricot and purple.

What flowers do you like? Perennial or annual?

  2. I think it's nice to have some of both. I am no gardener, though. That's my wife's area. I just appreciate the work of others.

  3. Well, I have ups and downs with gardening. Perennials planted many years ago didn't survive as long as expected. And many endeavors either fail or grow out of control. ~grin~ We do what we can, but it sounds like my Southwest Ohio region has similar growing conditions. Happy Gardening!

  4. I like both! The perennials are nice because they keep coming back, but I do like the variety I can get with annuals.

I think in the 4 seasons, fungi will not affect plants?

  10. I can't wait to plant flowers each spring!! Perennials are my favorite because they come back each year, but I sprinkle in some colorful annuals, too!! I also love ornamental grasses and plants like hosta that are beautiful and they come back each year, too. Have a great weekend!! Big hugs :)

  12. Definitely perennials so we don't have to plant again the next year. My husband is great at buying up clearance plants usually at the end of fall when they are dormant or look dead. He gets amazing bargains and manages to nurture them so they are healthy the following year.

  15. I can't even imagine being able to plant annuals in January or February. It's not safe in my neck of the woods until Memorial Day weekend. I plant both perennials and annuals, though because of our short growing seasons, most annuals aren't worth it. Yet I do it anyway, cause I love flowers.

  17. Perennials are good because they come back every year. I love Cottage gardens which have a patchwork quilt approach to planting. Annuals are good because they give instant colour and brighten up winter when the perennials are resting. I like propagating perennials by division and cuttings. Great post.

  18. We definitely plant mostly perennials as they come up year after year but we do find some annuals that we also plant like my favoriate - pansies!! I love it in the spring when my daffodils and tulips start blooming. This has been a rough winter on the East so some of our bushes didn't make it so I'm sure we will be at the garden centers soon looking for replacements. We also lost 8 pine trees with the nasty weather so that will be a challenge as well.
