Free Meal Register for Students in Our City – Sign 9

We found a sign from an organization, or a company called as “Focus Foods” in side of our daily walking path. The sign is about:
- Register for Free Meals

After searching through internet that “Focus Foods” provide retail, catering and delivery services to:

- students (18 years old or younger)

- senior or elderly people.

In case of students, then, our city school system contracted “Focus Foods” to provide and deliver foods to eligible students to all schools under its administration in the city.

Free meals program to ensure all students get nutritious meals and quality snacks. The students include:

- elementary schools

- middle schools

- high schools

The students who choose to study online, “Focus Foods” will deliver frozen meals to students home. Weekly delivery include:

- seven breakfasts, lunches and dinners

- snacks, milk and juice

Alligator skin is made of keratin, a kind of durable leather. Then the skin is used for exclusive and expensive products such as:

- luggage

- handbags

- shoes

- belts

Habitats of alligators have been attractive sites for ecotourism industry. We may see alligator in areas such as:

- ponds

- lakes

- canals

- rivers

- swamps

- bayous

You might surprise that alligator meats are sold in the market:

- frozen meat sold in groceries include Walmart

- fresh meat could be found in seafood markets

- I believe you may find frozen meat through online stores

I saw the price for fresh alligator meat in one of seafood market called as Tony’s Seafood:

- tail meat is US$ 10.99 per pound

- whole meat is US$ 6.99 per pound.

How Important to Wash Our Hand – Sign 8

When I was a kid, I didn't know how important about hand washing. Just told by mom and teachers to prevent spreading of germs.

The following photos are found in the one of hospital toilets.

It might be surprising that one gram of poop contains 1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion) germs.

At least, there are four type of bacteria live in the feces and relate to human health. They are:

- Salmonella

- Shigella

- Vibrio

- Escherichia coli (E. coli)

I guess you are very familiar with E. coli, because infection of this bacteria makes many produces are recall from market.

I watch CNN few days ago that a US company in New Jersey recall raw ground beef about 120 thousand pounds (55 tons).

The beef was contaminated by E. coli. The bacteria might come from animal and human waste.

We always get inform this kind of contaminated to other agricultural produces and recall by market. Some of them are:

- eggs

- sprouts

- lettuce

- fruit

- raw milk

- raw flour

Have you Tasted Alligator Meat? - Part 1 - Sign 7

It is estimates about 5 million alligators in the USA. Then, you might wonder which states have the most alligator in America:

- either Florida or Louisiana?

Just to let you know and comparison that alligator population in Louisiana and Florida is following:

- Louisiana has 3 million alligators

- Florida has about 1.25 million alligators

In Louisiana, the alligators are not only harvested as wild animals, but also from farming.

Farming produces much more alligators than hunted from wild. 400,000 farm raised and about 30,000 wild hunting alligators.

Other states which have alligators in great numbers are:

- Georgia

- Alabama

- Mississippi

- North Carolina

Neighborhood Watch in Communities – Sign 6

I have seen several signs of “neighborhood watch” at the some streets in my community.

The Fig 01 (at below) sign was old one, need to be replaced.

As you might know that neighborhood watch is a program to bond among 3 parties:

- residents in certain area

- businesses

- policies

This program was initiated by The National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) in 1972, about 50 years ago.

The main purpose is to help residents and law enforcement at neighborhood level.

Now days, it is estimated more than 5,000 local agencies involve in the watch program.

How to involve in neighborhood watch program?

The programs of neighborhood watch are run by volunteer. The volunteers come from neighbors. Just register to be a volunteer.

Is the neighborhood watch program success to reduce crime?

Since the members are volunteers, the “measure” of success is relate to:

- improving relationship between residents and polices

- giving crucial tips to law enforcement to prevent a crime (robbery or burglary)

- preparing residents to handle disaster

In case you didn’t know, a Good Friday is a day to commemorate Jesus crucifixion.

Jesus Christ sacrificing and suffering are important part in the Christian faith, and his believers.

A Good Friday is two days before Easter Sunday. Both days are not federal holidays in the USA.

Luckily, there are 12 states declare A Good Friday as a state holiday. Sure, offices are closed during this important day.

Hence, no public services in the administration levels of:

- counties

- municipalities

- state.
